I/O PCB Main Asmy. Calibrated – 210-1250-01 - 02Products:
- Explorer
- Discovery MKII
Issue:
- Potential capacitor failure on main pcb.
Symptoms:
- Low, (including zero) temperature reading for chamber temperature.
- Low or N/S signals from temperature probes.
Cause: All of the above faults can be caused by a capacitor failure at the input to the microprocessor pcb. These are situated under the microprocessor pcb as one group and include: C29 to C36 and C71.
Fault finding: If any of the above symptoms are present then check for the following. Switch off power to the machine and disconnect the power lead. Open the main pcb access drawer and position the main pcb for access, carefully unplugging the microprocessor pcb.
- Using a DMM measure the resistance from the following pins to zero volts (black lead on microprocessor pcb).
- RP1-1 to RP1-6.
- R112
- R28
- All resistances should be greater than approximately 10K ohms. Typically a faulty capacitor shows varying resistance in the 200 ohms region.
- As an immediate fix, the defective capacitor (see 210-2703-00 rev. D, sheet 3 of 3 for identification) can be snipped out of the circuit.
- The main pcb needs to be replaced ASAP.
- Re-connect the microprocessor (Note: ensure that it is fully seated into the connectors).
- Re-check the machine for operation.
Extracted from drawing 213-2703-00 rev. D, sheet 3 of 3.
Explorer Carrier Assy. with I/O PCB
Part #213-1016-00
Symptom;
Display shows 189 programs in memory after installing new I/O PCB.
Memory was not initialized resulting in all 189 programs being displayed as well as random meaningless characters being displayed in the program name field.
The procedure for memory initialization follows;
1. Power up the unit
2. Wait till the display reads System Diagnostics and Software Version: XX and a 7 second countdown starts.
3. While countdown continues press repeatedly Cold Trap and Lamps buttonsseveral times
4. Note that the countdown stops and memory allocation display becomes active
5. Power off the unit.
6. Repeat 1-4 one more time
